CHRISTMAS DOWN UNDER

As some of you may already know, we have now moved on to our next stop, Australia, and have been here for about two weeks.

After stopping over in Sydney for a couple of days we flew down to Melbourne, where we stayed for 5 nights (although we wish it had been longer!!). Having had a pretty full on couple of weeks in Bali, we decided to just chill out whilst in Melbourne. We stayed in the beautiful area of St Kilda and most of our days were spent soaking up the sun in the park or on the beach. We had a couple of wonderful brunches out at a small cafe (which was always rammed!) just next to our hostel and enjoyed walking around the market which is held every Sunday.

After Melbourne it was back to Sydney and time to get into the Christmas spirit! It’s safe to say we were not feeling Christmassy at all and I wasn’t sure whether I was going to enjoy Christmas away from home, as normally we have a huge family Christmas and it’s a pretty big deal in our house. Turns out we had the best couple of days celebrating! On Christmas Eve we met some friends for drinks in Darling Harbour, which looked beautiful all lit up at night. When we woke up on Christmas Day we decided to pop a bottle of bubbly on the roof terrace before going for a lovely brunch out. We then spent the rest of the day having a typical Aussie Christmas on Bondi beach and a BBQ later that evening on the roof terrace whilst watching the sunset.

On Boxing Day we decided to go to the Sydney opera house bar with a few girls we met in our hostel and celebrate with a nice bottle of chilled rosé. It was amazing and pretty surreal to see the harbour bridge and opera house in person.

Whilst in Sydney it has also been great to see one of my friends from uni who has moved out here. She hosted a lovely bby on the balcony of the house she is currently staying in, which was lovely. She was also looking after a beautiful golden retriever at the time which was a bonus!

Before I go I must tell you about the coastal walk Hannah and I took from bondi to coogee beach. It’s a 6km walk to coogee and the views were absolutely breathtaking. The walk spans 7 beaches in total and also runs through one of the largest cemeteries I’ve ever seen! It’s safe to say when we got back to bondi 3 hours later we had earned a nice cold drink and spot of lunch.
